The SPS Patient Advocate is responsible for working with colleagues at the Stanford University Medical Center and at Stanford University to manage medical referrals and ongoing care and stewardship of selected donors and prospects. This position is a key ambassadorship role at Stanford University and Stanford University Medical Center.

Essential Functions:
Acts as non-clinical liaison/concierge/navigator for referred patient in all aspects of their care at SUMC before,during or after an encounter with a Stanford medical facility.
Designs and implements training strategies to build understanding in medical center staff of the value of
grateful patients to institutional fundraising.
Develops and prepares reports, written briefing and background for major gift solicitations for volunteers,
university, school, and hospital leaders and faculty.
Facilitates scheduling of physician appointments and care during in-patient and out-patient stays for key individuals and assists in negotiating the Sanford healthcare system.
He/she discovers individual’s interests and matches them to institutional priorities.
Identifies major gift prospects from SPS database.
Matches potential donors with highest priority needs of the medical center presenting those needs to potential donors in the most persuasive manner to encourage the best institutional result.
Participates in rotating 24/7 coverage of service – flexible schedule will be determined based on patient
volume.
Plans and implements individualized fundraising strategies to obtain major and leadership gifts from grateful patients.
Provides input for design of events and other activities to cultivate prospect interest and solicit major gifts for high priority programs.
Serves as liaison to assigned departments to define gift opportunities, identify new prospects and develop
strategies and participate in solutions.
Works with community physicians to bring their patients into a grateful patient position at Stanford.
Works with fundraisers and physicians to prepare timing and approach strategies for moving grateful patients to a position of giving.
Works with medical faculty and administrative staff to identify funding needs.

Skills:
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university
Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
